Community engagement
Organisations: resources
Community engagement needs to have adequate resources and time in order to be effective. Community engagement can sometimes slow down decision-making processes and add front-end costs to policy. However, it can save money in the longer term, because effective processes lead to better decisions. Initially, it can be difficult for organisations to plan its community engagement work far enough in advance, and to allocate sufficient resources. The organisation needs to think about the following:
- What financial and human resources are available for community engagement activities?
- What other resources (from partners etc) can we draw on?
- Has sufficient time been made to undertake meaningful community engagement?
These and other issues are discussed in more detail in the Developing your Strategy and Planning your Project sections.
