Project planning: budget
At the same time as defining your objectives you should also be costing the project and identifying and securing the necessary resources to deliver it. Issues to consider include:
- What is the anticipated total cost of the project?
- How much money is needed for each specific task within the project?
- Do you have an existing budget you can use, or will you need to identify extra resources? If you need to find extra resources, how long will you need to achieve this? Who do you need to contact?
- Are you subcontracting any of the work? Have you got an accurate costing for this? Have you made sure that the contractors are booked in to do the work?
- Have you identified risks that may lead to an overspend on the project? Do you have enough slack in the overall budget to cover any unforeseen problems?
- Are there existing resources/initiatives which you can piggy-back or tap into in order to save resources?
