Finalising your approach
Sign-off and ownership: permissions

The proposed project needs to be approved by the appropriate person/s and/ or department/s in your organisation. You need to be clear who that is, and make sure that they have all the facts that they need in order to make a decision.

It is useful to enlist the help of a more senior 'champion', who can act as an advocate for the project with more senior members of staff. If you are the project champion, you may find that getting organisational approval from all the relevant individuals involves some compromise or re-shaping of the project. The more that you have kept them informed at early stages as the proposed project was being developed, and the more that you can show the link between the project and that individual's own priorities/ concerns, the more likely you are to get their agreement.

In a multi-agency project, permission to proceed may be need from other agencies as well. You need to ensure that the final project plan receives approval from all the relevant people - sometimes this may mean presenting revised plans more than once.
