Finalising your approach
Project planning: project team
Having designed a project plan, it is your task as project manager to assign tasks to achieve the objectives and brief the project team. It may be the case that this can be achieved by using existing in-house staff resources. If not, external partners or contractors will need to be engaged. See in-house and commissioned work and partnership working)
It is vital that everyone involved in the project has a clear understanding of the project as a whole and the requirements of each task that they are helping to deliver.
Some of the issues you may need to consider include:
- Do you have internal staff who are able, and willing to, be involved in the project?
- If you need to use partner bodies, or external contractors, have they been identified and agreed to the tasks assigned to them?
- Have you agreed a process for awarding the contract and monitoring the performance of any external contractors?
- Has the project team been fully briefed about:
- the nature and objective of their task and how it relates to the wider project?
- the time frame within which it will needs to be done?
- the expected outcomes?
- the available budget?
