Implementing your project
Monitoring: organisational insights
Community engagement is a shared activity, in which local people and members of the policing family work together towards common goals. Successful engagement relies heavily on effective communication and mutual understanding and respect. You may be running a community engagement project, or simply 'doing your day job' - in both cases, you can contribute by putting the community and individual citizen at the heart of what you do.
Everyday, the views, needs, expectations and wishes of individuals and communities are fed to police forces and authorities through a vast number of formal and informal contacts. Forces and Authorities need to find a way to recognise the value of all these encounters and relationships and to capture this information. As Forces and Authorities build up this store of information and insights, they need to use this learning to generate policy, refine processes, review procedures and identify training needs etc.
